In September 2016, Helen and Naoise will be spending two weeks participating in an artists research residence at\u00a0Takahuhti Artcenter<\/a>, <\/em>Tampere, Finland. M(other) and Son<\/em>, is a collaboration between two artists Helen Sargeant and her youngest son Naoise Sargeant supported through Nicola Smiths’ We Are Resident<\/em><\/a> project. This site will used to document their residency.<\/p>\n

This residency is important to me as it will be the first time in 14 years, since becoming a mother that I have been able to access an international arts opportunity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Helen’s aim is to take a child centred approach to researching and making. To dedicate a prolonged period to time to caring, playing and creating.\u00a0To experience and negotiate Finland and its culture with her son and empower his creativity by making him an equal collaborative partner.<\/p>\n

Helen and Naoise enjoy drawing, cooking, making, writing, taking photographs and performing together. They intend to split their time during the residency between the live\/work space at Takahunti and by taking day trips out to explore Tampere, its people and institutions.<\/p>\n

Helen intends to make two portable studios for her and Naoise in the form of rucksacks; each containing drawing, art making materials and equipment such as a sketch pad, smart phone, string, chalk etc, so that they can create whilst on the move.<\/p>\n
