ARTIST Helen Sargeant is one of the people chosen to be a “giver” for World Book Night on March 5.

Helen, of Walsden, who has a studio with the Linden Arts Group in Hebden Bridge, has been selected to give out 48 copies of “The World’s Wife” by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, which is is a collection of poems exploring female archetypes.

Helen will be giving out books to carers of young children at playgroups in Todmorden on and after World Book Night and is planning to make the giving process into a piece of performance art, taking on the persona of characters from “The World’s Wife”, such as “Little Red Cap”, “Queen Kong” and “Mrs Midas”.

World Book Night represents the most ambitious and far-reaching celebration of adult books and reading attempted in the UK and Ireland, said Helen, with 40,000 copies of each of 25 titles given away with the support of booksellers and broadcasters.

More details are available on her website www.helensargeant.co.uk and on the World Book Night website www.worldbooknight.org
