A solo show of video and sound works curated by Jenna Collins and shown at her Manchester home as part of the mini series programme of exhibitions.

Jenna wrote this text and created the Monument DVD to accompany mini series.

“mini series supports the practice and discussion of contemporary video through a series of solo exhibitions by artists who have, through sustained practice, developed a personal relationship with the medium whilst engaging with the narratives that make video what it is today.

The DVD arose from viewing number of works that occupied a similar terrain, either as the primary or secondary impulse in its creation. Many of the works on MONUMENT critique the ideological function of the concrete monuent and present a time-based alternative, whilst others explore mourning, loss and the inadequacy of representation in the face of the actual. All works question what we chose to ‘bear witness to’, to mourn and celebrate, from what perspective , and what we chose not to.”

The Video Looking for the Madness of Van Gogh is featured on the DVD which appears with the excerpt:

“An exploration and re-animation of Van Goghs field of sunflowers, connecting the represented pictorial space and the experience of being there.”
