I have created a free downloadable journaling template – “Mark making to capture connection between mother and baby” for the award winning Maternal Journal project produced by artist, midwife and birth activist Laura Godfrey-Isaacs.

At the beginning of May I took part in the Maternal Journal website launch in London at Somerset House, which coincided with World Maternal Mental Health Day. I delivered a workshop and artists presentation about my inspirations and drawing practice.

The project explores the history and practice of journaling as well as its potential to support wellbeing and promote positive mental health.

Journaling can act as a therapeutic device by providing the means to check in on feelings, help to understand triggers towards poor health, document good and bad days and put experiences into perspective.

Journaling in pregnancy also has particular poignancy as it relates to the inevitable marking of time, the nature of experience as journey, the sense of being in a liminal space (a threshold between one space and the another) and the creativity of making a baby.

I am so delighted to be a part of this project that enables mothers and others to access these tools and resources and enable them to creatively explore their maternal journeys independently at home or as part of a group.
